We've all done it a time or two (probably more often than that). We come home from work exhausted. Maybe the boss gave us a lot of hassles today. Maybe our co-workers or our employees just didn't feel like cooperating today. All we want to do is plop down on the sofa, watch some...
television, and unwind a bit. Selfish? Sure. On the other hand, we work hard so we need to take care of ourselves once in a while. The problem is, too often we forget that our wives have tough days too. I work from home, so I see the difficult days as they progress and get an eye-witness view of just how long and hard a homeschool day can be. We homeschool dads can have a huge impact on the quality of our homeschools if we can relieve some of the pressure our wives feel in their homeschooling efforts. All we have to do is remember that they have tough days too and give them some time to wind down as well. You could take over the dinner-making duties for her once in a while. Now, if you're like me, dinner that night is booorriing. Throw some spaghetti in one pot and some canned sauce in another pot. But the kids love it and it gives my wife some time to find a quite hole in the house where she can recuperate a bit. Another great idea was suggested to me a few days ago. Daddy-time. Take one of the kids (or all of them) out once in a while. The house gets a little quieter (or a lot quieter) and your wife has a chance to gather herself, or take a long, hot shower or bubble bath. Believe me, I know how difficult it is to get off my tail and give my wife a break. You just don't want to do it. That sofa's just too comfortable. Still, if you've ever played sports before you've been in this exact same position. You're standing in the pouring rain, hands on your knees, sucking wind as fast as you can because you just finished your 14th wind-sprint, and the coach calls for one more. So, somehow, some way, you draw in a deep breath, stand up straight, and take off at the whistle. In the end, your team was stronger because of that last sprint, and I can tell you, your homeschool will be stronger if you can give your wife a break now and then. So, take a deep breath, turn off that tv, get up and do something, anything to give your wife a well-deserved break. |
